CHCW Guest - Gen. Richard Neal, USMC (ret)
Richard ‘Butch’ Neal is a retired four-star general and served from 1996—1998 as Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps. After graduating with a B.S. in History and Education from Northeastern University in Boston, in 1965, Neal was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps and spent the next thirty-five years commanding at every level.
During his time in uniform, he also went on to graduate from the National War College and earn his M.Ed. from Tulane University. He served two tours in the Republic of Vietnam, and during Desert Storm, he served as the Deputy Director of Operations for General Schwarzkopf as well as Central Command Briefer.
His decorations include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal; Silver Star Medal with Gold Star; the Defense Superior Service Medal with Palm; Bronze Star Medal with Combat V; and the Purple Heart. Since retiring in 1998, he has been president of three intellectual property licensing companies.
He was the Senior Mentor for the United States Marine Corps for five years and is currently a Senior Fellow at the National Defense University. The general also served as Chairman of the Board for the Military Officers Association of America, and is presently on the board of directors for several companies, and sits on the Board of Trustees for Norwich University.

CHCW Guest - Tyler Anbinder, PhD

Professor Anbinder has won fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities and held the Fulbright Thomas Jefferson Chair in American History at the University of Utrecht. He also served as a historical consultant to Martin Scorsese for the making of The Gangs of New York. His current research includes an NEH funded study of Irish immigrant savings habits and a book-length study of immigrant life in New York City from the first Dutch settlers to the present.

We're excited! Ronald G. Shafer will be visiting us on April 29, 2017. Ron was an editor, reporter, and columnist at the Wall Street Journal for 38 years, based in Chicago, Detroit, and Washington, DC, where he was the political features editor. In 1990 he was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for Journalism. He has also contributed to People, Sports Illustrated, Reader's Digest and the Washington Post. His books include "When the Dodgers Were Bridegrooms" & "The Carnival Campaign".

Douglas Cohn is also the Writer/Owner of: Washington Merry-Go-Round, America’s longest running syndicated column, founded by Drew Pearson in 1932.

She is the grateful recipient of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities’ (DCCAH) 2016 Larry Neal Writers’ Award in Adult Fiction, and a finalist for the DCCAH 31st Mayor’s Arts Awards in the Outstanding New Artist category.
